It`s all about Caulking

Being one of the Most popular DIY tasks these days I felt I should shed some insight, especially here in Washington where everyone is concerned about water intrusion.

I would like to plug a few products for specific applications. The first level of protection around your windows and siding is caulking and you may notice cracked or missing caulking. For this our favorite Product is "Quad" by OSI it is an oil based product that can be applied in (slightly) wet areas freezing temps and remains flexible in hot or cold temperatures. This product is also paintable (do not fill nail holes with it or smooth it with your finger) as it is messy and hard to clean.

For the inside jobs like filling nail holes on drywall, we like "ALEX PLUS" by DAP it is Acrylic based and cleans up with water or a wet rag nicely, feel free to smooth with your finger all you want. It can make your moldings and trim look much better after painting if caulked with this prior to painting.

Last but not least is of course for your Bathtub and sinks we recommend "Advanced Kitchen and Bath" also By DAP. This is silicone based and and can be difficult to use but is very effective, waterproof, flexible, and usually lasts a long time, (if done right).
